Unfortunately, I can't find any information regarding a similar incident online and I can't recreate your error, so all I can advise you to do is to uninstall and reinstall the application, then try updating once again. If the process continues to fail, the best solution would be to contact Malwarebytes directly using this form: https://support.malwarebytes.com/customer/portal/emails/new?b_id=6438
Hey, should I enable the self-protection module in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

Yes, the protection should be enabled in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, because it protects you against applications that might try to install on your computer without your consent.
However, sometimes, the self-protection module and web protection module might give false positives and when this happens, right click the tray icon and disable them for the time being and enabled the options back.
Anti-Malware by Malwarebytes tends to block so many websites I'd like to visit. How to prevent it?

Robert Polubinski
Malwarebytes scans the IP and the URL you want to visit and then takes action based on what has been reported before. In 90 % of the cases its blocking modules are effective against deceiving websites, however, since the application doesn't feature an Exclusion list, you will have to disable the module completely. To do this while Malwarebytes is running, right click the icon in the system tray and uncheck Web Protection. This will disable the module allowing you to visit the website that has been blocked.

In order to update the database of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, you should check if the "Download Now" section from the Dashboard tab of the GUI is active and click it. If it's not active you should check the following:
You need to install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from a Windows Admin-level account.
Verify that your antivirus software and firewall both give Malwarebytes Anti-Malware full permissions because it is possible that any of these two might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it.
Verify that there are no detected threats needing your attention by clicking the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard.
If none of this helps you, try uninstalling your current version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and reinstall the latest build.

The first thing to do when the application stops working is to restart the computer in order for the modules to restart as well. When Malwarebytes is not working properly, you will be greeted with a message on the interface. Click the buttons indicated to fix the problem and that's it. In case it doesn't work, I recommend that you reinstall the application and all the modules, files, registry items will be restored to the working condition.
